After episode 10, John Ray sent a poem reflecting on the ride with Mike. We asked him to record it in his voice, and we wanted to share it with you (for full context, make sure you listen to episode 10).

[00:00:00] mike.: You're listening to the underview and exploration and the shaping of our place. This is Mike Rusch, and after my tour of Fayetteville with John Ray, he went home and wrote something that I think you need to hear.
I asked him to read it for us in his own voice, but the words are also available on the episode webpage. And for full context, make sure you listen to episode ten first.
I closed my comments about the Ray family with the comment.
"When they talk, you listen."
Well, this is one of those times that it's time to listen.
never deep enough. a poem by John Ray.
[00:00:33] john ray.: Nothing stays buried forever,
despite the manic insistence of dictators
and influencers peddling happiness
with a new paint color
or martial law.
One by dictate,
the other by distraction.
They both insist the dead are dead
and the past is the past.
And now is the time to forget all that
and believe the propaganda.
This time it will all be different.
So ignore the genocide and
squelch the protesting voices.
The dead are really dead and really buried
so forget about all that and forget about all that
and forget about all that.
But,
no matter how deep the bodies are buried,
there will be resurrection.
There will always be resurrections.
And what comes up out of the ground
will either save us or destroy us.
But resurrection is coming.
